Acknowledgements

In life, nothing is sure, and that certainly applies to the things we want to achieve. In November 2014, the year that I decided to follow a course in Web Design, I didn’t know what it would bring me. It was a leap into the unknown, because I had no knowledge at all. Why did I choose Web Design? At this moment I can see three reasons, which I will describe here briefly.

1. In 2013, after a long period of silence, I began to compose music again. Tunes arose into my consciousness. I got the idea of making my own website and showing my ‘Short Melodies’ to the world. It was a powerful idea, but it remained untouched, because I didn’t know how to translate it into reality. But my composing went on. At some point I even began to sing again, and I discovered that this is the driving force in everything I do.
2. When I found an old laptop from the 90s, I tried to find out how this cute little machine was working. I extended its internal memory en installed ‘Puppy Linux’ on it. On my own personal computer I experimented with ‘Ubuntu’. When reading about ‘open source’ operating systems, I thought about following a general course in IT. But I doubted: does it really suit me?
3. One particular course, that immediately got my attention, was the course ‘Web Design with Joomla! for Beginners’, given by the Digitale Academie (DDA). After having carefully thought about it, I decided to take the step, and I don’t regret it. The course goes into every possible aspect of designing websites and I certainly recommend it. What makes the profession attractive to me, is the creative process, that appeals to all of your talents in order to achieve that one thing: the website, that fantastic shop window that gives you the opportunity to exchange ideas, products and services.

The lecturer and founder of the Digitale Academie, Marco Corrò, encouraged me to build my own website. His contribution was invaluable and I wish to express my gratitude for that.
