Short Melody No. 11 On 'Thus, perchance, the Indian hunter'
I wrote down this melody and first called it 'American Tune'. Then I found this great poem by Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862). Not only its metre suits very well, but also its words, giving an impression of the mind of a pioneer, going down the river to explore the unknown. Is it possible those were the thoughts of the members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806)?
